Hi – I’m Kate. Welcome to I Like Words.
A little bit about me – I’m British by birth but spent my school and university years in South Africa, returning to the UK after finishing university. I’ve spent the past 20 years living in and around London, still the most exciting city in the world in my opinion, though am currently embarking on a new life in the Lake District, which is in a whole different category of excitement.
This is a general interest blog which is not intended to focus on any one topic in particular, though topics such as current affairs, politics, technology, feminism and social media have cropped up so far and are likely to reappear in future posts. Most of my posts tend to be about what other, generally more well-known, people are up to, though occasionally I’ll provide an update on my own adventures. Mostly this blog is a tool for me to organise my very jumbled thoughts, practise my writing and hopefully spark some debates along the way.
Those who know me well, know that I’m pretty opinionated, so hopefully I’ll find enough material to keep the posts coming and hopefully some of you out there may enjoy reading what I have to say. When writing about politics and current affairs I do not claim to be an expert – I try not to post anything without fact-checking it first but opinions are very much my own and I am happy to be corrected if I have got anything obviously wrong.
Finally, a brief note about the name of this site. It’s shamelessly stolen from a job application letter written by a man named Robert Pirosh, who was applying for a job as a screenwriter. I’m always a sucker for a tale of ingenuity and a ‘go get it’ attitude, and I loved both the letter and the fact that it got him the job he was looking for. The letter and further background can be found here.
